Nokia Launches Cheap Handset in Africa
With the progress of Africa’s fast-growing low-end phones market, subsequently Nokia wants to take a lead this market, one of Nokia plans is low-cost handset.
Lately, low-cost handsets have been launched by Nokia for Africa’s market. They are Nokia 5000, 2680 Slide, 1680 Classic and nokia 7070 Prism. The new model of handsets equipped with entertainment and Internet access, voice recorder, FM radio and MP3 ringtones, according to Dorothy Ooko, the company’s communications manager for East, Central and Southern Africa.
While Africa’s first-time buyer market continues to grow, Ooko said the number of people seeking to replace their mobile phones with newer and advanced models is also increasing.
The new handsets will be shipped into the region at various times and with different prices.
Affordable Candybar Phone: The Nokia 1680 Classic

The Nokia 1680 Classic is one of the four products released by Nokia, beside Nokia 5000, Nokia 2680 Slide, and Nokia 7070 Prism. Nokia recognize The 1680 Classic as Nokia’s most affordable camera phone as of the moment. The Nokia 1680 Classic has very basic phone functionalities with the added promote of a camera even with its low cost. Aside from the VGA camera, it also has video recording capability, and even a one touch access for your photos and videos. Another characteristic from The Nokia 1680 Classic include easy access to email and phone sharing functionality. The Nokia 1680 Classic will ship on the second quarter of 2008 with a MSRP of $78-80.
