Nokia N900, the new internet tablet with Maemo OS has been launched lately. The device is not made as iPhone competitor with its 140,000 apps that make users keep sticking to this platform.

The first time you hold N900, you may feel need more time for learning its Maemo OS. If you want to give it to a women, so you may take a look at other choice as this internet tablet doesnt have any feminine curves and also shinny metal bits, whimsical angels or cute graphics. It is only black brick.

According to 360East.com, the author spent about 2 weeks for understanding the phone. With N900, without launching Skype app, you can online on Skype. You’ll find the Skype and phone contacts on same screen. Like the normal call, user can make budget call thru Gizmo SIP number. Answering Gmail and POP mail on the phone is not a problem. The browser supports Flash and Firefox can be run there.

The Maemo smartphone from Nokia, N900 may be not a ‘must have’ one especially if we associates it with iPhone 3GS. Talking about Maemo, it seems not too many apps available for Maemo operating system so far.

By the time, Maemo apps have grown so Maemo users can get more alternative app for their device. This time we talk about Evernote mobile memory tool as one of Maemo apps available out there.

We can use Evernote Sharing Plug-in for our Nokia N900. This plug in lets you access Evernote app right from the device. You can for example send photos taken from your device camera as well as photo gallery, in addition to audio clips.

You may use Witter on your Nokia N900. Some days ago, this app had got its major update. The new version came from Daniel Would. In this new Witter version we can find the major update of user interface and functuionality. As has been asked before, the guy now has added a toggle so you can select more Tweets than previous version. Now the selected tweets can be 20, 59, 100 and 200 Tweets. Pretty nice..

There are so many functions now available that are presented through icons as the major user interface update. Those functions such as search, friends timeline, trends, public timeline, user history of a specific person, and easy full screen toggle. Now users can authorize Witter thru OAuth. Read more

People have spent their time with Nokia N900 for a while. The device is a powerful, big and special designed for landscape usage. We all know Maemo is interesting operating system. But due to the certain reasons, this OS seems quite undercooked to us. The other reason may because we are more familiar to other’s user interface and philosophies. What we mean here is Android. We realize Android will be more friendly to us than Maemo for this time.

Camkeyd, Freeware for N900

One of the available apps for Nokia N900 is Camkeyd. This app enables you to use your camera button for quick access to Task Manager. It means that using camera button you can access Task Switcher while your lens cover closed. Camkey is useful with fullscreen apps. There is no configuration needed and you can enable it thru installation and disable it thru uninstallation.

Camkeyd will be useful for fullscreen apps which usually take fullscreen when working. This situation makes you feel difficult to close those apps. In this case, if you have installed Camkeyd the problem will be solved.

This is because after installing Camkeyd, your camera button will turn into a Task switcher launcher. Read more

[Nokia N900 Games] PrBoom

For you who have not yet known what it is PrBoom, so this is a kind of first person shooter Doom cloning for Nokia N900. As for Doom itself, it was a game available in the past. This 3D shoot’em game was made by Id Software in 1993.

Now we are talking about PrBoom that becomes one of the Doom version which uses SDL (Simple Direct Media Layer) library. PrBoom is based on LxDoom and MBF. They are in turn based on Boom. Boom is the free available port for DOS.

In order to make it works, PrBOOM needs an IWAD or Doom data file. The free IWAD files themselves can be downloaded on a lot of locations, take for example is here. If you like, you can also choose to install your own commercial Doom IWADs.

Here another cool Nokia N90 freeware / widget: BatLevel. This is desktop widget showing precise battery level. BatLevel is a simple Qt-based desktop widget showing battery level. Its advantage is that it shows battery level as a percentage, which is more precise than the standard battery indicator.

Nokia Multimedia Transfer Supports N900

A few days ago NMT (Nokia Multimedia Transfer) had got update to the last version, v1.4.2. Now it comes with Maemo device support such as Nokia N900. For you who still do not recognize this app, NMT will be able to help you transfer videos, music, pictures and other files between Nokia device and Mac.

Nokia Multimedia Transfer can be downloaded on nokia.com/mac. But you have to search for update after installing NMT as this app is still in older version. You can find ‘search for update’ under setting for newer version.

Nokia N900 will come to Vodafone UK. According to the rumors this internet tablet has got many pre-orders. The phone will be available in January 2010. One left question: is N900 the iPhone killer? Phonesreview has said that N900 will not be iPhone killer. However there is an article says it on ibtimes entitled: Nokia N900 promises to end iPhone’s reign as king of smartphones.

Previously, the supposed iPhone killer is said Google Nexus One, but it seems not. Now how about N900? Our source says that Apple has nothing to worry about as N900. This phone is like others such as N97, Palm Pre, Motorola Droid, Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 and others that have been available or will be available in the mobile phone world.
