We must admit that we are invaded by the Symbian S60 3rd edition news and applications so often lately. Considering all this, you can easily forget the S40 and their 6th edition. Although the S40 is an OS that doesn’t suite the smart phones and doesn’t have things like multitasking or native programming etc, the S40 is very user friendly operating system.

As a matter of fact two out of the four Supernova phones Nokia has just released will pack the S40 6th edition. Lets see what this 6th edition can do shall we After all who knows what the future of the S40 will bring?

Series 40 6th edition will support MIDP 2.1 and Mobile Service Architecture (JSR?248). This bunch of numbers, (JSR?248) will provide a common implementation of seven JSRs which will be shared with S60 3rd edition, Feature Pack 2 phones as well as with other Java phones. In English that means that Nokia apps will be available on other handsets as well.

Furthermore the Location API for J2ME™ (JSR?179) will help create new location based applications which will allow GPS usage. Adobe Flash support is also provided with the included Flash Lite 3 Player which will allow better animated backgrounds and screen savers to be created for S40 phones. Windows Media Video 9 and Windows Media Audio 10 support is also included for better audio and video quality.
